Liberate the Afghans from their meager prosperity
Lately there has been a great deal of rumbling about the booming poppy farms in Afghanistan from the Narcs. Seems they can’t quite stomach the thought of the poor farmers making a decent living and are demanding they go back to the bone grinding poverty, not that they ever left it, of growing things not worth half what they get from poppies. Seems the pentagon agrees with them:
They have found a way to make money and are starting to fend for them selve, quick crush half their economy!
Wonderful, now we may soon have ground troops dieing for the drug war.
Even as the Bush administration hails Afghanistan as a major foreign policy success, the country's soaring drug profits now equal about half of its gross national product and have become the principal source of funds for reconstruction, outpacing foreign aid. ...
They have found a way to make money and are starting to fend for them selve, quick crush half their economy!
In Washington yesterday, the senior American ground commander in Afghanistan said the United States is considering expanding the role of the roughly 18,000 American troops in the country to help crack down on the skyrocketing drug economy.
Wonderful, now we may soon have ground troops dieing for the drug war.
